--- title: Page Numbers description: Add customizable page numbers to any position on your PDF pages with configurable font, size, and color. --- # Page Numbers Add visible page numbers to every page of your PDF. You pick the position, format, font size, and color -- the tool handles the rest. ## How It Works 1. Upload your PDF file. 2. Configure the page number settings in the options panel that appears. 3. Click **Add Page Numbers** to process. 4. The numbered PDF downloads automatically. ## Options - **Position** -- Choose where page numbers appear: Bottom Center, Bottom Left, Bottom Right, Top Center, Top Left, or Top Right. - **Format** -- Select between simple numbering (1, 2, 3...) or "page X of Y" format (1 / 5, 2 / 5...). - **Font Size** -- Set the size of the page number text. Defaults to 12. - **Color** -- Pick any color for the page number text using the color picker. ## Features - Six positioning options covering all corners and center positions - Two numbering formats: simple sequential or "page X of Y" - Customizable font size from 6 to 72 points - Full color picker for text color - Automatic margin handling that keeps numbers within safe areas regardless of page size ## Use Cases - Preparing documents for print that need visible page references - Adding page numbers to a merged PDF created from multiple source files - Numbering presentation handouts before distribution - Adding sequential numbering to legal documents or contracts ## Tips - The "page X of Y" format is helpful for documents where readers need to know the total length, like proposals or reports. - If you need different numbering styles for different sections (like Roman numerals for front matter), use the [Add Page Labels](./add-page-labels) tool instead. ## Related Tools - [Add Page Labels](./add-page-labels) - [Bates Numbering](./bates-numbering) - [Header & Footer](./header-footer)
